Nevermorph by Taylor-payton Nevermorph by Taylor-payton
When I was about 11, I watched Princess Mononoke with a couple friends one day.

While the film was brilliant, the nightmares that ensued were vivid beyond belief. I envisioned a nebulous, formless being that would imitate children before consuming their small, corporeal frames. It would refer to itself ironically as the Never-morph.

Despite the gruesome being plaguing my thoughts for a month or so, I was able to reproduce it for this contest. Hope you enjoy.

Really? That anime brought this super natural being to creativity? I suspected it would be spirited away... This creature does fit one of the spirits description.... slightly.

I have to tell you, from this side of the screen, totally worth it. Would you mind if I used this for the cover of a piece of writing I have over on Figment.com? I would not profit from it and I would give you credit. If not, well, it was worth asking!

I love this piece!

Feel free! I don't mind at all. Thank you for the interest in my work, I'd be glad to allow you the use of this image. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, life (while I love it) can get tremendously busy at times, haha.

Yay! Thank you. Don't worry about it - I understand how crazy life can be. If you want to see what I'm using it for, here is the page: [link]

Also, awesome taste in movies. Princess Mononoke is pretty freaky, but I love that kind of stuff, and Nevermorph captures that particular shade of "what the hell is THAT" perfectly. Thank you again!

Yeah! There's a lot of various masses of black goo w/ masks-- some of my favorite were in the game Demon's Souls. Thanks though!

That's insanely creepy. I've watched Princess Mononoke, but this thing also reminds me of the Colassal Ruin monsters from Alice: Madness Returns.

This is so cool! The fact it looks so deformed but with that childs face staring into (what I assume is the child it took the appearance of the face from) makes it very creepy! I loved the movie Princess Mononoke, though I don't think any dreams like this occured after watching it with me :o

When I saw the film "Dinosaur" as a child, I saw a T-Rex in my room at night. Without my glasses I couldīt differentiate a wardrobe from a monster

My GF and I saw a shadow (of a shirt) last night atop the closet door and freaked out a bit haha. The dark can be very deceptive.

:D yep. And that works until today. I hate open doors, when there is only a small light source and I canīt see, what is there. Itīs stupid because my room is on the third floor and now one could come through the windows. But I find it still scary...

What I like best about this though is the way you painted the face, so perfect in the details and all you really captured it so well and the ooze dripping out of it makes it so gruesome. Good gone so bad

What is original about this? The artist even states that it was a movie influenced piece how is that fair to the rest of the contestants that the judges pick something influenced by a movie?

Last I checked, dreams are basically knowledge or memories that your subconcious re-creates, so you've seen it before in you life. Stuff that you thought was cool or whatever sticks with you, it has an everlasting effect on you. So dreaming something after watching some movie of a creature that looked similar to the movie but entirely different and possibly more frightening isn't unfair in a contest like this. (hell, I've played video games before going to bed and had freaky as hell dreams.) Also, there aren't any creatures that imitate children in Princess Mononoke. Angry demonic boars, yes. Wierd forest god with the face of a man? Yes. That turned into some weird nebula thing when the sun went down? Yessiree. Creature that imitated children before devouring their tiny little souls? Nope. Nothing is purely original, so you shouldn't be whining about anything. Everything is influenced by something that already exists, in my opinion. And the fact that this artists' subconcious twisted something like Princess Mononoke into this monstrosity is pretty awesome.

Yes, but there's no denying that this bears uncanny resemblance to another of Miazaki's creations; No-Face from Spirited Away. (I'm talking about after he started eating people, of course) Just saying.

Oh yeah, I noticed that too (He was freaky when he started eating people).
Even so, like I said before, nothing is entirely original ya know? I guess that was the main point I was trying to get across

Influenced by a movie is not the same as being copied from one. If I recall Princess Mononoke correctly, this creature does not appear in it at all. There is some similar imagery, which apparently influenced the artists nightmares involving this creature, meaning it came from his own mind and is original.
